Rakarth Flesh Base paint gives your miniatures a muted grey-beige foundation with a smooth matt finish. It is a useful starting point for pale skin, aged bone, worn cloth and other details where you want a subdued, natural tone. This 12ml pot comes in the new Warhammer Colour branding, replacing the previous Citadel Colour presentation.

The Base formulation has a high pigment count to help establish an even colour before you move on to shades and layers. Keep its muted tone as the main colour for a weathered finish, or build lighter highlights over the top. Its neutral appearance makes it a useful addition to both fantasy and science-fiction painting schemes.

Using Rakarth Flesh Base paint

Start with a primed miniature and thin a little paint with water on your palette so it flows smoothly from your brush. Apply thin coats, letting each one dry before adding more. This helps build coverage while keeping small recesses and sculpted details clear.

Once the basecoat is dry, add shading to the areas that need more depth. A brown shade can give the finish a warmer, aged appearance, while a cooler shade can help create a more sombre effect. Tidy the raised surfaces with Rakarth Flesh, leaving the shaded colour visible in the recesses.

For pale skin, add lighter highlights to prominent features while keeping the hollows darker. On robes or worn fabric, follow the tops of the folds with a lighter neutral colour. For bone details, concentrate your highlights on raised edges and tips to bring out their shape.

Try it on undead miniatures, weathered clothing, parchment or small decorative details. Test your chosen shades and highlights on a spare part first to see how they affect the overall tone. Whether you are painting a single character or a whole unit, Rakarth Flesh offers a consistent foundation for a restrained colour scheme.
