Warhammer Colour: Base Kantor Blue 12ml

Kantor Blue Base paint gives your miniatures a deep blue foundation with a smooth matt finish. It is a useful starting point for dark blue armour, cloth and decorative details, with plenty of room to build brighter highlights over the top. This 12ml pot comes in the new Warhammer Colour branding, replacing the previous Citadel Colour presentation.

The Base formulation has a high pigment count to help establish an even colour before you move on to shades and layers. Keep the dark blue as the main tone for a restrained scheme, or bring out selected areas with lighter blues. A solid foundation makes it easier to keep the finish consistent across a single character or a whole squad.

Using Kantor Blue Base paint

Start with a primed miniature and thin a little paint with water on your palette. Apply it in thin coats, letting each one dry before adding more. This helps you build coverage without filling small recesses or hiding the detail on your model.

Once your basecoat is dry, add shading to the areas that need more depth. Tidy the raised surfaces with Kantor Blue, then use a lighter blue for the highlights. Leaving some of the original colour visible around those brighter areas keeps the overall finish dark and gives the highlights something to stand against.

On armour panels, follow the edges with a fine brush and add a smaller highlight to the corners. For robes or cloaks, work along the tops of the folds while keeping the creases darker. Both approaches help show the shape of the miniature without covering all of the rich base colour.

You can also use this blue on shields, banners and smaller pieces of equipment. Try a little on a test model or spare part to see how it works with the other colours in your scheme. Whether you prefer a simple finish for gaming or want to spend more time on careful highlights, it offers a dependable starting point.
