Description
Astra Militarum: Auxilia (PB)
Command comes at a cost in Auxilia, a Black Library Warhammer 40,000 paperback by Russell Zimmerman. A young Cadian officer finds himself responsible for an unlikely regiment, with enemies within the Imperial war machine as well as on the battlefield.
Synopsis
Castellan-Colonel Orysian Roane has always preferred to leave the hardest decisions to his superiors. When his chain of command collapses, that option disappears. His new command is a makeshift auxilia centred on a clan of abhumans, bringing together soldiers whose backgrounds and methods could hardly be more different.
Roane wants to impose Cadian discipline, but an openly hostile commissar and an indifferent Departmento Munitorum offer little support. Before he can turn his disparate troops into a cohesive force, civil war engulfs the world around them. His first command could prove his last.
Why You Will Like It
If you enjoy Astra Militarum stories about the pressures of leadership and the soldiers behind the uniforms, Auxilia has an intriguing starting point. Its unusual regiment puts clashing traditions, Imperial prejudice and the challenge of earning trust at the centre of the conflict.
For readers interested in the abhumans serving within the Imperium, this offers a different perspective on life in its armies.
